Euro 2012 set to boost visitor numbers to Ukraine

3rd April 2012 Print

Skyscanner, Europe’s leading travel search site has witnessed a huge surge in flight searches to Ukraine this year, with Brits heading over before and after the tournament, suggesting that Euro 2012 has raised awareness of the joint host nation as a holiday destination.

Record numbers of Brits look set to visit Kiev, the beautiful and largely undiscovered capital city of Ukraine with flight searches up a massive 77% year on year.

Sam Poullain, Skyscanner’s Football Expert commented; “Ukraine currently attracts more than 20m visitors each year with most coming from Eastern Europe. However, our data shows that by holding a major sporting event such as Euro 2012, a country can attract people from all over the world as it did for Germany and South Africa in the last few years. With airlines offering flights to Kiev from just £100 return, it’s no wonder Brits are now heading over.”
