Buying a first home is a huge step in anyone’s life, but it was one Daniel Cain was happy to take with Elan Homes.

The 29-year-old marketing executive had been living with his parents in Bristol while he saved for a home of his own. But he decided 2012 was the year to take the plunge and he purchased a two-bedroom coach house apartment at Mortimer Gardens, in Stoke Gifford, Bristol.

He said: “I was looking for a few things from my first home. I needed it to be secure, as I travel with work, and I needed it to be low maintenance, as I’m always on the go. Elan’s coach house apartments offered both. And, because mine’s detached, I’ve got my own space without any adjoining neighbours, which also appealed.”

Another major plus for Daniel was the location of his new home. He added: “Location was always going to be the deciding factor for me and Mortimer Gardens ticked all the boxes. It’s close to Bristol city centre but also very convenient for Bristol parkway train station and the motorways and I do have to travel with work.”

To make Daniel’s move even easier, Elan carpeted his new home and including kitchen appliances as well. “There wasn’t really anything for me to do apart from move in,” he said. “Buying brand new, everything was done for me, I don’t need to think about DIY or any maintenance in the near future.”

Beverley Rickard, sales manager for Elan in the south, said: “Mortimer Gardens is a fantastic development for first time buyers and we have a stylish range of affordably priced two-bedroom apartments being built alongside four-bedroom family homes. The apartments feature contemporary interiors including brand new fitted kitchens and chic bathrooms. As new builds they are energy efficient and therefore cheaper to run than most second hand properties, as well as being secure, easy to maintain and covered by a 10-year Build Mark Warranty.”

Beverley added: “There’s no onward chain so if you’re a first time buyer you can decide when you want to move, without waiting for anyone to move out first. And, you don’t have to live with any previous owner’s taste in decor.

Current prices on a range of two-bedroom apartments start from £139,995. Four-bedroom homes at Mortimer Gardens are from £249,950. A show home is due to open at the beginning of March.

The development is close to Bristol city centre with its blend of modern shopping and maritime history, arts and culture, but the private neighbourhood feels a world away from city life. A bustling high street will eventually run the centre of Mortimer Gardens so residents can look forward to having a host of shops and amenities on their doorstep.
