London Independent Hospital offers free weight loss consultations

People who are obese often face stigma, multiple forms of prejudice and discrimination because of their weight. Often individuals, who achieve weight loss though diet and exercise, are viewed more favourably than those who use avenues such as surgery. However, for some people, dieting, exercise and medication just aren't enough to bring down their weight to a safe and lasting level.

Obesity is not only a condition in itself but carries other health risks including diabetes, hypertension, stroke, arthritis, cancer of the ovary, breast, oesophagus and colon, obstructive sleep apnoea, fatty liver and gallstones. Bariatric (weight loss) surgery offers the answer for some people, when diet, exercise or medications fail to achieve a lasting loss of weight. The surgery reduces diabetes in 85% of patients, hypertension in 75%, sleep apnoea in 90%, and infertility in 50%. It can also help to restore life expectancy.

To help people who are struggling with their weight find out if bariatric surgery is the right option for them BMI The London Independent Hospital and Consultant Bariatric Surgeon Mr Kesava Mannur are offering free weight-loss surgery consultations throughout April and May. During the consultation residents will find out if they are eligible for surgery and be able to discuss what options are available to them along with the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Mr Mannur comments, “Bariatric surgery offers the answer for some people, when diet, exercise or medications fail to achieve a lasting loss of weight. It is not the easy option and anyone undergoing surgery has to make dramatic changes to their lives. However, as with any journey, through surgery our patients have taken the first positive step to help improve their life. I would encourage everyone who continues to struggle with their weight to at least consider bariatric surgery as a realistic route to helping them lead a healthier, happier and longer life.”
