M&S Travel Money warns Euro 2012 travellers to plan ahead

28th May 2012 Print

M&S Money is urging football fans to be cautious when purchasing currency for this summer's Euro 2012 matches, which take place in the Ukraine and Poland from 8th June - 1st July. The travel money provider is advising fans to only accept crisp, whole, unmarked notes if heading to the Ukraine and warns that both the Hryvnias and Zloty aren't widely available on-demand from many high-street providers.

M&S Money is one of the few high street bureaux to offer on-demand Ukrainian Hryvnias and Polish Zloty, which are available in all 122 of its bureaux located in M&S stores. In addition, M&S credit card holders can order currency online and over the phone.

Jane Lawson, head of travel money at M&S Money, said: "To get a competitive rate on your travel money it's always advisable to plan ahead and purchase your currency before you depart for the airport. However, with less-common currencies, like the Hryvnias and Zloty, which often aren't available on-demand, it's especially important to ensure you obtain your currency in advance.

"Those heading to the Ukraine should also be aware that old or damaged bills may not be accepted and, as it's a cash economy, travellers' cheques and credit cards aren't widely accepted, so it's particularly important not to leave your currency to the last minute."

Jane's Euro 2012 travel money tips:

Plan ahead and think about how much currency you're going to need - alternative methods of payment may not be widely accepted

If you're getting your currency on the high street choose a provider with a large number of currencies on demand - so you won't need to make multiple trips to order and collect

Don't leave your currency until the last minute - airport bureaux often offer less competitive rates

Ensure notes for the Ukraine are crisp, whole and unmarked

Be aware of counterfeit notes if exchanging money on arrival
