Linden Homes shows its support for National Armed Forces Day

11th June 2012 Print

Linden Homes is continuing its strong association with the Armed Forces by pledging its support to a weekend of celebratory and reflective military-themed events in Cleethorpes.

June 30 is Armed Forces Day, a national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for serving men and women, their families, veterans and cadets.

And during the weekend of June 23 and 24 – there will be a huge celebration of music – including a performance by the Military Wives Choirs - flypasts, parades and much more as Grimsby and Cleethorpes go all out to mark the occasion.

Developer Linden Homes, which has a new homes development in Cleethorpes, is helping to support the event through sponsorship and donation of materials for the weekend of events.

During the weekend, any service personnel reserving at the town’s Hampton Court development at Curzon Avenue will be able to benefit from a special Forces package of incentives, including financial assistance with legal fees, stamp duty and removal fees.

Visitors to the development will also be treated to strawberries and champagne.

Hampton Court also carries the memory of a young Cleethorpes solider killed in Afghanistan.

Jimmy Major of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was just 18 when he lost his life in November 2009.

His mum and dad, Kim and Adrian, were invited as special guests of Linden Homes to the development last September to unveil James Major Court in honour.

The two-day Armed Forces event has been organised by Bill McCann, chairman of Royal Air Forces Association Grimsby & Cleethorpes and members of Armed Forces Events Organising Committee for North East Lincolnshire.

Highlights include:

A parade through the Town led by the Royal Air Force College Band.
Flypast salutes by the Blades Aerobatic Team and a Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Vulcan Flying Display.
Performances from the Military Wives Choirs, The Old Coldstream Corps of Drums, the RAF Waddington Pipes & Drums, the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the Lone Piper.
Displays from the RAF Falcons Parachute Display, the Humberside Police Dog Display Team and the Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team.
A 20-minute firework spectacular to military music.
