Amazon sees 5,800% increase in sales of Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting

Following the opening celebrations on Friday, Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting saw a 5,800% WoW (week on week) uplift in sales at Amazon.co.uk. Boyle’s award winning Slumdog Millionaire also experienced a 900% uplift in sales during the same period.

“Danny Boyle was the first winner of this Olympics with his best loved movies experiencing a surge in sales,” said John Boumphrey, Music, DVD and MP3 Director at Amazon.co.uk Ltd. “From 90s cult classic Trainspotting through to the award-winning Slumdog Millionaire, the increase in orders of the British director’s films is a clear indication that people loved the spectacle he created for London 2012.”

However, it just wasn’t the British director’s films which experienced an increase in sales at Amazon.co.uk. Other titles which saw an uplift in WoW sales on Amazon.co.uk include:

Crowd favourite Rowan Atkinson’s, Mr Bean's Movie Box Set (The Ultimate Disaster Movie/Mr Bean's Holiday) saw a 311%uplift

After playing Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the opening sequence, Sir Kenneth Branagh’sMuch Ado About Nothing saw a 300% increase

Other films which had clips featured in the celebrations also saw an uplift – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang up 250% and Chariots of Fire 138%
