Toronto welcomes International Film Festival

17th August 2012 Print

Toronto is all set to host one of the world's largest and most important film festivals.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is now in its 37th year and runs from September 6-16,  featuring more than 300 films from over 60 countries and covers all genres.

For ten days Toronto buzzes with public screenings, parties and celebrities, making the festival a favourite among fans, filmmakers and critics.

The festival has its permanent home at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in the Entertainment District, but the festival itself sprawls out to embrace other city locations too.

One film released in the UK this month and based in Toronto's Little Portugal district, is the comedy drama, Take This Waltz, starring Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams.

The film had its world premiere at TIFF in 2011 and is directed by Canadian Sarah Polley. The area featured in the movie has a large Portuguese population, hence its name, and can be found west of downtown in the 'old' city of Toronto.
