Brits get a taste for saucy movies

Viewing figures of ‘saucy’ films have increased by 55 per cent since the explosion in popularity of naughty novel Fifty Shades of Grey according to statistics released by LOVEFiLM.
 
The ‘mummy porn’ novel – which is the fastest selling paperback ever – has prompted Brits to explore their naughty sides. Viewing figures of LOVEFiLM’s ‘Something Saucy’ collection have rocketed by 55 per cent overall in the five months since the kinky page-turner hit the shelves, with some individual titles increasing by as much as 300 per cent.

Top of the pile is Steven Shainberg’s flick Secretary (300 per cent). The film explores the masochistic tendencies of young secretary Lee Holloway, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and her dark relationship with older boss Mr Grey who shares his name and dominant nature with novelist E.L James’ own creation.

Other risqué films to enjoy a boost in popularity since the novel’s April release include erotic thriller Lie With Me, starring Eric Balfour (90 per cent), while explicit British film 9 Songs has risen in viewings by 81 per cent.
 
Mexican award winner The Exterminating Angel has seen a 75 per cent spike in streamings while the number of people watching sexy suspense film Chloe, starring Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried has increased by 69 per cent.
