When the sun sets over the majestic golden desert, Qatar comes alive! From traditional Souqs and Arabic infused restaurants, to night ‘sand-dune bashing’ safaris and lively jazz clubs.

Despite the regulations on alcohol, Qatar proves it knows how to have fun whist showcasing the destinations diverse and distinctive identity.  Here are a few activities to discover when day merges into night.

Spice Market

Experience the flavours of Arabia at a traditional spice market. With inspiration from the streets in Southeast Asia, Jean-Georges Vongerichten showcases authentic south-east Asian cuisine with a hint of local spices and flavours. Situated in a laid-back setting, amidst a cluster of warming lanterns, share an array of dishes with locals and fellow travellers.

Dinner at Al Tawash Restaurant in the Souq Waquif

Located in the heart of the traditional Arabic Souq (market) Waquif, dine at Al Tawash, one of the largest and most popular restaurants in Qatar. Known for its signature Middle Eastern cuisine, including Harees (boiled wheat, similar to porridge) and Kabsa (a traditional rice dish made with spices, vegetables and meat), savour the authentic flavours whilst taking in  the hustle and bustle of the surrounding market environment. After dinner, take a stroll around the market to soak up the atmosphere and sample the Arabic coffee and after dinner treats.

Arabian Night Safari ‘sand dune bashing’

Venture into darkness on an Arabian Night Safari for the ultimate twilight experience. Brace yourself on the back of a quad bike as the natural roller-coaster is negotiated, before being rewarding with a traditional Arabic meal in the picturesque surroundings. After dinner, guests set up camp under the stars for an unforgettable overnight experience.

Katara Cultural Village

Stop by the Katara Village to peruse cultural exhibitions, or take-in concerts and shows.  Katara Beach is also close by with adrenaline pumping activities such as banana boat rides, knee boarding and parasailing on offer. For those still after adrenaline thrills, lessons are available for wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing and water skiing. Those who prefer the sport of sampling culinary delights, a variety of restaurants are situated close by.

Shopping Malls in Doha

Enjoy a ‘shopping safari’ with a visit to one (or all) of Doha’s multiple malls. Stocked with brands from the UK, Italy, US and Germany all malls offer an extensive range of choice. They even have a range of activities to break up the shopping (or save the men) including ice skating, roller coasters and gondola rides.

The Pearl

Visit the multibillion dollar man-made island. The Pearl, comprises of 985 acres, containing themed districts with Town houses, apartments, exclusive penthouses and five star hotels. Take in the stunning views from the surrounding marinas and piers and become immersed in the Pearl- Qatar’s nightlife comprising of many late night venues and Jazz clubs. End the night by taking a tranquil stroll under the stars along the marina boardwalk.

Dhow cruising in Doha Qatar

Sail along the Corniche Bay on a Dhow cruise whilst sampling local delicacies and spectacular views. Local companies offer private tours along with music, fishing and barbeque. Noon cruises are recommended as the best time to go to capture the best ambience.
