Dom Joly says “cheers for ten years” of Nectar

21st September 2012 Print

Dom Joly raced around the UK in a multi-city tour, as part of Nectar’s 10th birthday celebrations. The Fool Britannia comedian toured the country on a mission to personally say “cheers” to millions of Nectar card holders as the UK’s largest loyalty programme celebrates 10 years of success.

The 10th birthday tour was part of Nectar’s ambitious project to thank as many of its 18.5 million card holders as possible for their continued support over the last decade, with Dom Joly taking up the baton of performing a series of eye catching and interactive endeavours across the length and breadth of the country to thank the great British public on Nectar’s behalf.

His outrageous antics were inspired by members of the public who posted suggestions via the Nectar Facebook page and Twitter feed. These included Joly leading a ‘Dom Joly clone’ collective in London, chasing after cardholders in Birmingham, building a giant Hollywood style CHEERS sign out of straw bales in Yorkshire and firing a special cannon ‘Cheers Salute’ to all those in Edinburgh and Scotland – all in the name of Nectar’s 10th birthday festivities.

Dom Joly said ahead of the tour “Saying cheers to all the people who have helped support Nectar is a nice touch and I think it really shows appreciation for their cardholders after ten years – and the fact that we’re going to have some fun trying to reach all of them is a huge bonus! There were some great suggestions that people came up with and I’m especially looking forward to see how I’ll end up being cloned by Nectar – I’ve always thought the world could do with a few more Dom Jolys. But seriously, the random things some people came up with were simply terrifying.”

James Frost, Nectar Marketing Director, says: “With our 10th birthday being such a momentous milestone we wanted to ensure that we marked the occasion by thanking our cardholders who have made the first ten years possible. With his quirky and fun antics, we felt Dom Joly was the best person to get our message of ‘cheers for ten years’ across loud and clear to as many collectors as possible.”

As part of the whistle-stop ‘cheers for ten years’ challenge, Dom Joly visited the following places in a convoy of Ford Galaxy vehicles emblazoned with the Nectar #CHEERS10 hashtag – encouraging anyone who saw him and his crew to join the birthday conversation and say hello:

London
Oxford
Birmingham
Manchester
Wakefield
Skipton
Gateshead
Edinburgh

The tour was being supported by a number of Nectar’s partners including; Sainsbury’s, Homebase, BP, Ford and easyJet. For more information about Nectar’s birthday celebrations please visit nectar.com,  facebook.com/nectar, or twitter.com/nectar.
