The world's first Tweet Shop where customers pay by Tweet instead of financial currency has smashed its opening week’s targets with people exchanging a social media update for a 60p packet of crisps every 30 seconds.

Demand is 390 per cent up on Kellogg’s forecasts with the firm having to employ extra security guards at the unique central London store as thousands of people turn up to Tweet and claim a pack of new Special K Cracker Crisps.

The Tweet Shop opened on Tuesday (25th) and is staffed by iconic Special K girls in red dresses who check each customer’s Tweet before handing over the crisps.

Kim Murray, 28, from London, was the first person in the world to pay for a product with a Tweet.

Sarah Case from Special K comments: “The value of positive endorsements on social media sites is beyond compare so we’re excited to be the first company to literally use social currency instead of financial currency to launch this new product.”

The Tweet Shop on Soho’s Meard Street, London is open from 9am to 5pm until Friday 28th September. It is lined with hundreds of packs of crisps, a 'try before you buy' snacking area and a Œcommunity noticeboard’ that captures social media reaction to the unique retail space.

Special K Cracker Crisps are a low calorie savoury snack (under 100 calories per pack) and are available in sea salt and balsamic vinegar, sweet chilli or sour cream and onion flavours.
