For honeymooners seeking something out of the ordinary, this new week-long package at the Phoenicia Hotel in Valletta offers a perfect combination of cultural discovery and indulgent relaxation for under £570 per person.

Malta's most historic hotel, the five-star Phoenicia has been a favourite of royals and celebrities ever since it opened its doors in 1947 and its unique heritage and timeless elegance make it an ideal choice for discerning travellers who appreciate hotels with real character.

Couples can saunter through the 7.5 acres of romantic gardens and hide away at the Bastion Pool Deck, carved into the city walls, or stroll into Valletta to appreciate the architecture of this world heritage city with its lively cafe culture and magnificent waterfront.

The package includes seven nights' accommodation for two in a deluxe harbour view room including breakfast, return airport transfers in an executive car, a glass of champagne each on arrival, petit fours, flowers and a bottle of sparkling wine, plus a romantic dinner in the Phoenix restaurant with a bottle of wine, all for £1135.*

Rob Bruno, sales and marketing director at the Phoenicia shares his top tips for honeymooners in Malta, "Valletta is a great city for couples as it's easy to explore on foot but there is plenty to see and do to suit a variety of tastes. For a special night out, honeymooners could choose the Manoel Theatre which is amongst the oldest in Europe, the Casino di Venezia, housed in a grand palazzo on the waterfront or take in one of the many concerts at the historic Granaries venue in Floriana, near to the Grand Harbour.

"By staying here, guests are also well-positioned to visit other parts of the island. For newlyweds, a favourite is always a carriage-ride in the ancient city of Mdina with its cobbled streets and narrow walkways. I'd also recommend a boat trip in a traditional Maltese fishing boat, known as a dghajsa, which you can take from the Upper Barakka Gardens over to the Three Cities - Cospicua, Senglea and Vittoriosa. Another must is the Blue Lagoon in Comino - one of the best beaches in the entire Mediterranean and an ideal romantic day trip by ferry."
