Work on a £13 million scheme to regenerate a former factory site in Leyland is set to start before the end of the year.

Rowland Homes, one of Lancashire’s leading new homes developers, has been given the green light to transform the run-down former Prestolite site in the Cleveland Road to provide 82 homes.

The Prestolite factory, which made starter motors for the town’s automotive industry, was demolished in 2008, with the site remaining derelict since then.

But following approval from South Ribble Council’s planning committee, Rowland has unveiled their hopes to completely regenerate the area into an appealing community with attractive homes.

Paul Rowley, managing director of Rowland Homes, said: “The former factory site had become an eyesore and a blot on the landscape of Leyland, which residents have had to put up with for too long. Our £13million scheme will regenerate the 5.5acre site to offer a choice of houses and apartments. It’s a welcome boost to the area as we will be providing new homes close to the town centre and there will be employment opportunities for local people.”

Rowland’s dedicated team of skilled tradesmen are expected to begin work on the development towards the end of the year and properties will be available to buy in the spring.

The company has established a reputation for building quality homes in sought after locations throughout the North West including Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire.

The development in Cleveland Road will mark a return to Leyland, following the sell-out success of The Willows, an intimate development of 21 family homes.
