Magic and beauty are part of the allure of The Sarojin but next month a truly mystical experience awaits, as the night sky is set to come alive during the visually-spectacular Loy Krathong Festival. This year, 28th November brings with it an evening when the local Thai people pay respect to the goddess of waters by floating candlelit offerings on nearly every expanse of water in Thailand, which shimmer with the glow of a thousand lights flickering and dancing in the breeze, creating the most enchanting romantic setting for couples.

The Loy Krathong Festival, also known as the ‘Festival of Light’, is celebrated on the 12th lunar month when the moon is at its brightest and the tide in the rivers at its highest. It is widely considered one of the most traditional and picturesque events in all of Thailand, bringing the community together as they release floating rafts (loy krathongs) to carry their gifts and wishes to the goddess of water in the hope of promising better luck for the future.

For the ultimate experience, as part of a private tour, The Sarojin can arrange for guests to visit local markets selling krathongs, adorned with candles and incense sticks, and experience colourful parades held in honour of this special evening. They will also have an authentic opportunity to travel to the Takuapa Old Town along one of the most important rivers in Phang Nga Province via traditional pleat boats where they will join thousands of locals who gather at the waterways to sing Thai songs and release their krathongs. As legend has it, if the krathong floats away then the coming year will bring good fortune, but if it returns towards the shore then the year may not blessed with good luck.

The Loy Krathong Festival is an especially romantic night for lovers, not just to witness the magical atmosphere at this time, but to make wishes of their own. It is believed that couples who make a wish together during Loy Krathong will stay together in the future.

A magical experience is also available for guests who prefer to stay in-resort. With its wonderful coastal setting, resting on an 11km stretch of white sand beach in Khao Lak, The Sarojin overlooks the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea which will come alive with the flicker of candlelight extending miles out to sea. There will also be traditional Thai music and fireworks all set against the backdrop of the sparkling ocean.

Further good news is that those booking 21 to 44 days prior to their arrival will be rewarded with a 5% discount, whereas those booking 45 days in advance will receive an impressive 10% saving, subject to availability and excluding peak periods. Prices at The Sarojin start from THB 11,000 (approximately GBP 220), inclusive of accommodation in a luxury Garden Residence, plus all-day à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine for two people.
