DVLA bracing itself as SM11 THY goes under the hammer

12th November 2012 Print

With Smith being the most prolific surname in the UK since records began, understandably DVLA Personalised Registrations is bracing itself for a tidal wave of interest in SM11 THY which is being auctioned in Warwickshire later this week.

SM11 THY will go under the hammer during the final stages of the three-day auction of 1,500 personalised registrations being staged at Ardencote Manor Hotel in Claverdon from Wednesday 14 November .

The registration has already served up a Twitter first for DVLA Personalised Registrations after trending UK-wide after the actor James Corden - famed for his role as Smithy in the hit TV comedy Gavin & Stacey – tweeted “Love It” on hearing of its sale.

Those interested in placing a bid can do so via the DVLA Personalised Registrations’ online absent bid process, however those planning to bid either online or over the telephone cannot do so as the deadline for both has surpassed. The only guaranteed way of securing a registration featured at the auction is by bidding in person.

Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: “Due to the huge popularity in the Smith surname there was inevitably going to be a surge in interest surrounding the SM11 THY registration, we’re just hopeful that next week it’ll meet our expectations.”

While it is unlikely SM11 THY will re-write the record books for the highest amount paid for a personalised registration auctioned by the DVLA, ironically that was set in March 2009 at Ardencote Manor Hotel when 1 D sold for £352,000.

DVLA’s forthcoming auction will consist of a total of 1,500 registrations, all chosen to offer a selection to suit all tastes, styles and budgets including; AM57 RAD (reserve - £900),  ATT 1C (£400), A100 KER (£300), BA12 NEY (£1,000), BET 81G (£400), BR11 ANS (£1,000), C411 OFF (£350), CU12 REY (£1,000), 9 EEK (£1,700), EN61 NES (£1,000), ERO 510N (£350),  FA12 HAD (£1,000), F11 FTY (£400), GE12 ALD (£1,000), GET 105T (£400), HAR 210T (£350) HE55 KEY (£1,000), LE07 ARD (£350), 90 O (£5,000), 80 OTS (£1,800), PO57 AGE (£900), RA11 WAY (£1,000), RUS 551A (£450), SA11 EEM (£2,600), SA12 AHS (£900), WME 110R (£350), WA11 KER (£1,000),   WR11 GHT (£1,000).
