American Express launches UK gift card
American Express has launched its first prepaid Gift Card in the UK, making gift purchasing easier this festive season by ensuring loved ones have the freedom to choose their own perfect present. The American Express Gift Card, unlike vouchers or gift cards restricted to just one specific retailer, offers greater flexibility and can be used at locations where American Express is accepted in the United Kingdom, from restaurants and theatres, to shops and online sites. In addition, whilst some store cards have a limited shelf life, the funds loaded on to the American Express Gift Card are available for six years from the valid date detailed on the card.
The Gift Card comes in denominations of £20, £30, £50 and £100, making it suitable for a range of budgets. They are available at selected Sainsbury's, Superdrug and WH Smith stores nationwide - perfect for those hitting the high street for their Christmas shopping. Gift Cards are also available online at americanexpress.co.uk/gift, which has the added benefit of allowing purchasers to personalise the Gift Card with a message on the Card and on the accompanying letter.
Recent American Express research reveals that two thirds (66%) of Brits receive an average of two disliked or unwanted gifts each year; that's almost a staggering 60 million unwanted presents.

Further support will be given to those who have their Card lost or stolen, as American Express will not charge a fee to replace it.

American Express will not charge a fee to replace the Gift Card if it is lost or stolen. The Cardholder will not be responsible for unauthorised charges taking place after reporting it lost or stolen, making it a safer option than a cash gift
If customers buy the Card online, they will receive it activated. If purchased in store, the Gift Card will be activated at the till
When buying the Gift Card online, the purchaser can include a message on the front of the Card (21 characters in length) and/or a customised message on the front of the Card carrier (50 characters)
Gift Cards are not limited to one transaction, they can be used as many times as the balance allows
There is a purchase fee per Card depending on the value: £2.45 for £20 denominated Cards, £2.95 for £30, £3.95 for £50 and £4.45 for £100
A monthly fee of £1.50 is charged against the remaining balance 12 months after the date of activation.
Funds loaded on to the Gift Card may be redeemed at anytime within six years from the valid date detailed on the card.
To ensure delivery in time for Christmas, the last day to order a Gift Card online is Friday 14 December 2012.
