Fabulous Friday the 14th - the busiest pamper day of the year

Friday 14th December is the busiest day for pre-Christmas pampering and beauty treatments, and also the most popular date for the annual work Christmas party, according to Debenhams figures.

Dubbed ‘Fabulous Friday’ by the high street retailer, December 14th is the most popular day of the year for in-store treatments including; haircuts, fake tan application, manicures, false lashes, facials and eyebrow threading as women put the final preparations in for a festive season in style.

A poll of 1000 Debenhams customers reported that women start the Christmas party preparation as much as 12 weeks before the party season, searching online and in stores for the perfect party dress, heels, bag and jewellery as early as September.

Once their outfit is sorted, Friday 14th is the culminating point in many women’s Christmas planning, where they have their beauty appointments and are set to let their hair down in true festive spirit.

Current demand for appointments on Fabulous Friday in Debenhams Oxford Street store are almost double that of any other Friday, with lunchtime slots between 12-2pm being the most sought after.

Appointments for pre-party pampering are booked in as early as October, as women (and some men too) compete to impress at their annual office Christmas bash.

Debenhams’ Beauty Director, Sara Stern, says: “The tree is dressed, presents wrapped and the house is decorated –now it’s time for the most important transformation of all.

“With only two more shopping weekends before Christmas, women have to fit their festive beauty treatments around their working days.”

According to a Debenhams survey, 73% of women have less than an hour to themselves in the week leading up to Christmas, with office parties, carol concerts, last-minute shopping, festive drinks with friends and food preparation voted the most popular five activities taking place throughout the seven day period.

Continues Sara Stern: “British beauties have to be superwomen at this time of year to fit everything in – festive beauty routines need as much planning as the Christmas dinner itself. It’s not surprising we’ve seen such a demand for treatments on a weekday when women can grab a couple of hours to themselves.”

Treatments available in selected Debenhams stores include spray tans, manicures, pedicures, massage, haircut and colour, eyebrow threading, eyelash extensions, facials and body scrubs.
