The outstanding practicality, versatility and interior space of the Honda CR-V has long been appreciated by its customers. Those qualities have also sparked huge interest from – and significant sales to – the UK’s emergency organisations.

Welsh Ambulance Service have ordered over 30 examples of the third-generation SUV in the last year, while Scottish Ambulance Service have taken delivery of more than 40 in the last 24 months.

Following an evaluation of the all-new fourth-generation CR-V, more than 20 examples will be heading north of the border in the coming months. It’s an impressive start for the critically acclaimed car, which was only launched in the last few weeks and is now in Honda showrooms.

The Honda CR-V makes an excellent ‘first response’ vehicle for 999 services. Its car-like dynamics and advanced all-wheel drive system mean it can access the most remote locations quickly, while the torque and fuel-efficient 2.2-litre i-DTEC diesel engine makes it quick under ‘blue light’ conditions and inexpensive to run.

Suzy Swift, National Public Sector Manager at Honda (UK), commented: “We have invested heavily in marketing to the ambulance sector and have upgraded our demonstration vehicles so their full potential can be witnessed by ambulance service representatives.”

Michael Ahmed, General Manager Fleet Service at Scottish Ambulance Service concluded; “The Scottish Ambulance Service have taken delivery of a further 22 Honda CR-V Paramedic Response Units (PRUs) over the last 12 months - further enhancing the resilience to meet patient needs in adverse weather conditions.

“Building on the experience of the CR-Vs that have been in service as PRUs since 2007, Scottish Ambulance have introduced the CR-V as the base vehicle for all PRUs heading into the winter months giving additional four wheel drive capability.”
