Following the spectacular success of Bradley Wiggins in winning ‘Le Tour’ in 2012 (and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year) and the continuation of ‘bike mania’ as Team GB cleaned up at the London Olympics, L’Ancienne Poste, a luxurious ski lodge owned by English cycling enthusiast James Dealtry, located in the village of Avajan in the French Pyrenees, has put together a unique ‘Tour de France’ trip for 2013.

The break provides a chance to cheer on Bradley and company as they take on one of the toughest climbs in the Pyrenees on Stage 9 (Sunday 7 July) of the 2013 Tour de France.

Following the stage, guests are free to take on a shorter version of the stage or serious cyclists might want to take on the entire climb.

Other activities available during the stay (at a supplement) include walking/trekking, rock climbing , parascending, quad bike riding , pony trekking , archery, water park , tree-top assault course, archery, white-water rafting , golf , canyoning and gliding. There is also an excellent spa in the village.

The unique holiday is from 6-13 July 2013 and costs from €690 pp (two sharing) which includes return airport transfers, welcome drinks, transfer/escort to a perfect vantage point on the serious Col de Val Louron- Azet to watch the cyclists as they go from St. Girons to Bagneres de-Biggorre, a Champagne picnic lunch, and 7-nights’ half-board accommodation including 4-course evening meals with wine/beer.

Flights are not included but the area is well served by three main airports Pau, Lourdes-Tarbes, and Toulouse and can be accessed using Easyjet, Ryanair or British Airways. Allow circa £120 pp for flights (Easyjet from Gatwick).

The lodge has a secure garage for storage of bikes for those bringing their own or they can be hired locally.
