35% of 2013 holidays to be booked in January

27th December 2012 Print

According to Teletext Holidays, around 35% of summer holidays are looked for or booked in January - where will you be going in 2013?

Where will the UK's holidaymakers be heading on our 2013 holidays? Destination predictions from Confused.com/Teletext Holidays:

Au Revior Paris, Bonjour Morocco:

Forget Paris and Amsterdam, 2013 will be the year of the short haul exotic break. Marrakech, with its cobbled streets, teeming bazaars and Hammam spas, has become one of the hottest tickets around for a quick, exotic getaway. A year-round destination, it's fantastic value for cost-conscious travellers.

Costa del Sol:

Spain is set to have a good year in 2013: the original home of the package holiday, it's currently enjoying a bit of a comeback. Despite money being tight the holiday is still an important part of the year and people want to guarantee a good time, so they're returning to destinations they know and trust.

Cancun:

The trend for all-inclusive holidays shows no sign of slowing down. Pay one price up front, not only for flights, accommodation and transfers, but often an unlimited supply of cocktails and all meals when you get there. Increasingly all-inclusive resorts are offering even more "extras" such as watersports, organised beach games and fitness classes. With charter flights from a range of UK airports, Cancun is one of the most affordable and accessible long-haul hot spots.

Croatia:

Beautiful Croatia has been on the rise for a number of years but it is well and truly on the holiday map for 2013. Before the break-up of Yugoslavia, it was the second most popular destination for British holidaymakers. Historic sights, hilltop villages and beautiful countryside have given it the "new Tuscany" tag for those who want more than a standard beach break. ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) is hosting its biggest travel industry conference of the year in the walled city of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for the first time next year, a sure sign that its tourism chiefs want to step up its profile for British holidaymakers.

Mhairi Duffin, Head of Holidays and Travel Insurance at Confused.com, predicts that in the current economic climate the attraction of ATOL-protected package deals will influence consumer's holiday choices, she explains: "We predict that the travel industry could see an increase in package holidays due to their ATOL protection as well as allowing people to cover their costs up front and budget accordingly. This is especially important while money is still tight for a lot of people in the UK."
