First acts on the wave for Fowey Festival of Words and Music 2013
Actors and authors, musicians and comedians are in the starry line-up for the newly re-launched Fowey Festival of Words and Music taking place in the stunning Cornish harbour town this year from 8 - 18 May.
They are joining the international band of supporters of Cornwall's best loved celebration of arts and entertainment - formerly known as The du Maurier Festival and set in the part of the world where Daphne du Maurier lived and used as inspiration for some of her most popular works.
More on "Warhorse" creator Michael Morpurgo and BBC Radio 4's Any Questions with Jonathan Dimbleby to follow, but first tickets up for sale during the ten days of entertainment include the ever popular West End leading lady and Broadway star Ruthie Henshall.
Ruthie's Intimate Evening will take the audience on a musical journey through her career, incorporating sounds from Les Misérables and Chicago among others.
Other rousing evenings will see The National Youth Jazz Orchestra celebrating the jazz big band sound and music making way for laughter as two of the UK's brightest young stand-up comedians take to the stage.
Seann Walsh, described by Time Out as 'this generation's Dylan Moran' and Devon-born Josh Widdicombe, who has played support to the likes of Stephen Merchant and Alan Carr, are seen as future stars of the comedy circuit and the Fowey Festival offers a chance to catch them on their way up.
In the final act formally announced so far, Duchy Opera will be opening Baron Herzog's Box of Operatic Delights, when the audience will be treated to all-time greats from operas ranging from Carmen to The Marriage Of Figaro. This show is perfect for those who may believe opera is not for them - as well as for those who know it is!
"The Festival has a long tradition of bringing top quality writers, musicians, comedians and celebrities to Fowey," says Festival Director Jonathan Aberdeen.
"They really love Fowey and the quirky charm of the Festival and its tented village. There's really is nothing like it in the entire south west and that's what makes it so special."
