Walk The Walk, the UK’s largest grant-making breast cancer charity, is delighted to announce the dates for one of its most exciting adventures – The Inca Trail Peru. The 40km trail will lead to the magical Machu Picchu, the lost City of the Incas, which is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

This adventure will take walkers on an exciting journey. From enjoying the local cuisine and visiting historic Inca sites in Cuzco, the ancient centre of the Incan Empire, whilst acclimatising to the mountainous region. To white water rafting down the Sacred Valley, before spending four days and 3 nights under canvas on the trail, where the sky is so clear, you can almost touch the stars.

During their time on the Inca Trail, specialist trained guides will lead the group. The trek offers the perfect escape from civilisation, as walkers take in early Peruvian culture, before ascending up through the beautiful and mysterious cloud forests.

What makes this Walk the Walk trip different to others is that after completing the challenge, they will join the spectacular celebrations of Inti Raymi, the largest Inca festival in South America. This is a feast for the eyes and ears, as national dress, music, colour and ceremony fill the air.

Travelling in mid-June means the temperature is perfect for completing a challenging walk and the skies crystal clear – giving the participants the chance to really say they have been above the clouds.

The Inca Trail is truly wonderful giving people a challenge, the opportunity to be part of a team, it is also allows time to reflect, many have changed the course of their lives when they have returned home. All this and raising money for vital breast cancer causes at the same time.

The total cost of The Inca Trail Peru is £3,375 which includes all accommodation, guides and interpreters. Participants also need to raise a minimum of £600 for Walk the Walk, however if they are able to raise more they have the opportunity to travel for free.

This really is an adventure of a lifetime, and not to be missed!!

Nina Barough, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk The Walk said: “I am so proud that Walk the Walk not only raises millions of pounds for the fight against breast cancer but also encourages women and men to step out of their comfort zone and to take on adventures and experiences such as walking the Inca Trail in Peru. Whenever I think of this challenge it immediately makes me smile with lovely memories of the wonderful friendships that are formed, and with whom you share the highs and lows of taking on a challenge of this nature, but most of all the fantastic sense of achievement. I will always cherish the moment when all holding hands and singing we finally reached the ascent up to the Sun Gate and our first glimpse of Machu Pichu, what a very special and emotional moment to share. Peru is a magical country and the people with their warmth and their smiling faces always make everybody very welcome, it really is a lifetime challenge not to be missed.”

Sophie von MaItzahn, participant in Walk The Walk’s Inca Trail Peru said: “I will never forget the breathtaking view over the tops of the Peruvian mountains, the pink sky just sitting on top of them as the sun started to rise and the cloud sitting low on the peaks. I was on my own for just a few moments, exhilarated and feeling quite literally on top of the world.”
