Homeowners urged to take advantage of Green Deal scheme

1st February 2013 Print

Manchester based energy efficiency company Green Deal Solutions is urging homeowners to take advantage of the recently announced funding allocated to kick start the government’s Green Deal scheme.

Dean Murray, managing director of Green Deal Solutions, said, “The government have set aside millions to help boost this scheme so people will need to act quickly to be able to take full advantage of the money available.

“The cold weather is set to continue and I think that with so many living costs having gone up in the past year, people are looking at their energy bills and considering the importance of being as energy efficient as possible.”

Green Deal is a new flagship government scheme which allows businesses and homeowners to install energy efficiency measures at little or no upfront cost. Payment for the improvements is made via energy bills, and is covered by the savings made on energy costs.

Recent findings from YouGov's Household Economic Activity Tracker (HEAT) showed that the biggest perceived threat to our standards of living were gas and electricity prices, above unemployment, rising inflation, taxes, state benefits and interest rates.

Secretary of State Ed Davey has announced a £125m cash back initiative for people signing up to the Green Deal scheme, which could mean a payment of as much as £1000 for each eligible customer.

As an extra boost, Manchester was recently named as one of seven cities in the UK to get a share of a £12 million grant that will enable the city to bring energy efficiency measures to its residents and businesses.

Dean continued, “The Green Deal scheme has just launched and we’re anticipating a rush of interest, so getting yourself at the front of the queue now can only be a good thing!”

“The money made available by the government is a clear sign of its commitment to reducing carbon emissions, reducing people’s energy bills and improving our homes and businesses.”
