First M&C-branded hotel opens in Taiwan

Tourists and business travellers to Taiwan looking for luxury accommodation need look no further. Asia's leading hotel group Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C), has announced the official opening of Millennium Vee Hotel Taichung.

Millennium Vee, which stands 24 storeys high and has six floors below ground, is the first M&C-branded property in Taiwan. M&C also owns the Grand Hyatt Taipei. Situated in Taichung's prime District Seven, Millennium Vee is the first hotel nationwide to offer 4G WI-Max wifi broadband network in all 237 guest rooms.

Millennium Vee offers stunning views of the city, which blends nature and urban life in a kaleidoscope of breath-taking sights. With the fusion of Western architecture set against a background of Oriental aesthetics, it is a touch of Manhattan in the heart of Taichung.

The hotel is also conveniently located near popular tourist spots such as Taichung City Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, Wen-Hsin Forest Park, Maple Garden, SOGO Department Store, Top City Department Store and World Trade Centre.

Millennium Vee is also the first hotel in Central Taiwan with a roof top sky bar complete with state-of-the-art entertainment features. The hotel's Presidential Suite commands a rate of NT$120,000 (S$5,022), while wedding banquet tables start at a minimum cost of NT$18,000 (S$753.30) per table.

"The launch of Millennium Vee Taichung is a milestone for M&C. It marks the Group's first M&C-branded property in Taiwan, and will also see a strengthening of our position as a leading hotelier in Taiwan's 5-star hospitality sector," said Mr. Lim Boon Kwee, Senior Vice President, Asia.

"Joining forces with Markwell Group, we were able to leverage on their technical expertise and be the first hotel in Taiwan to offer 4G WiMAX access in all our rooms. This is a game-changer and sets us apart from our competitors in terms of technological expertise," he added.

"Our central location in Taichung near tourist attractions makes us easily accessible to other regions of Taiwan. It's also a gateway to other parts of the world, making Taichung an ideal destination for locals and world travellers," he said.

With a population of over 2.6 million people, Taichung is Taiwan's third largest city after Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Representing M&C at the grand opening of Millennium Vee today, were Mr. Lawrence Yip, M&C Country General Manager of Greater China, and Mr. Sherman Kwek, Chief Executive Officer of CDL China.

Taichung's Mayor, Mr. Hu Chi Qiang and Taichung Markwell Group's Chairman, Mr. Lai Fu Yuan, were also among the 500 invited guests who were treated to a fireworks display and a variety of performances by local artistes.

To celebrate the hotel's official launch, the hotel is offering Sun Moon Deluxe rooms at promotional rates of NT$4,777 or S$199.63 until 31 March 2013.
