Love really does make you wealthier, as couples are £1224 better off a year compared to single people living alone. That means cohabiting partners have an extra £102 per month to add to their savings or to spend on luxury items.

Research by First Direct Telephone and Internet Bank revealed the spending habits of married couples or people living together. Single people were less likely to splash out on luxuries than married or cohabiting couples. They also found it harder to save money, with just 37% adding to their savings every month against 45% of those cohabiting.

Couples that are keen to move in together, but can’t afford the large deposit needed to secure a home, should take note of the Bloor Homes FirstBuy scheme at The Lanterns development in Irthlingborough.

An equity loan of up to 20% of the property price is provided meaning the purchaser only needs to arrange a mortgage for the remainder of the purchase price plus a 5% deposit. To qualify, the household income must be less than £60,000 a year and the applicant must be unable to finance a property in the area where they currently live or work

Currently on offer at The Lanterns is a range of two, three and four bedroom brand new homes which have been completed to a high specification; solar panels, built-in wardrobes to the master bedroom and spotlights to the kitchen, ensuite and bathroom.

The two bedroom Marford is a popular home with first time buyers. On the ground floor, the entrance hall goes through to a spacious lounge which leads into the open plan kitchen/dining area with French doors opening out onto the garden. A cloakroom completes the ground floor accommodation. Upstairs, the master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom and the second bedroom has access to a separate family bathroom.

The three bedroom Bampton features a spacious lounge, with an adjoining open plan kitchen / dining area with French doors leading to the rear garden. This property also includes useful storage space in the form of a utility and cloakroom. Upstairs, the double master bedroom benefits from both fitted wardrobes and en suite facilities, with a further two bedrooms and a modern family bathroom.
