Miller Homes drawing on local heritage for Dalmore Mill

22nd April 2013 Print

Dalmore Mill, in Auchendinny, was home to Midlothian’s last remaining specialist paper mill, which opened in 1837 and closed in 2004. Today, visitors are pleasantly surprised with the transformation since the old mill was demolished.

Under the stewardship of Miller Homes, this unique site has taken on a new dramatic new lease of life as a striking, traditional brick-built community has risen on the historic site, created with care by the five-star housebuilder.

Representing the first new build development in the area, Dalmore Mill, when completed, will provide a total of 134 homes, offering one, two and three bedroom apartments and three, four and five bedroom luxury homes.

Anne Marie Britton, Sales Director for Miller Homes Scotland East, said: “We have created a fantastic traditional community development, taking our lead from the heritage of the impressive former paper mill in Auchendinny.

“Working closely with the planning department, Miller Homes sought to recreate the magnificence of the mill and to that end, every façade is brick, reflecting the history of buildings that stood on the site in the past. The huge windows draw from the traditional style in the former mill, flooding each apartment with light.”

Dalmore Mill is the perfect location set in tranquil, leafy countryside, yet only a short commute to Edinburgh city centre. Situated in Auchendinny, it is a secluded development nestling in a hollow beside Glencorse Burn, near the North Esk river. Its history, combined with breath-taking beauty, makes it a very special place to call home.

Perfect for those who embrace the outdoors, a cycle network across Midlothian and into East Lothian is on the door-step; the Pentland Hills are just a short drive; and other historically significant sites including Rosslyn Glen and Rosslyn Chapel are just a few minutes away.

A public path runs through the development and Miller Homes built an additional path around the site, to ensure visitors to the area can make the most of the surrounding walks and landscapes.

Prices start at £125,000.
