Rising popularity of the 3 bedroom home

23rd April 2013 Print

Bloor Homes highlights: three bedroom homes are the most searched for property and also the fastest selling according to research from agents Strutt and Parker.

The report states that while these houses were once the sole pursuit of ‘second steppers’ now they are seeing activity from other groups. Many first time buyers are bypassing the smaller starter flat for a larger home, which can give much needed income in the form of renting out rooms to lodgers or friends. Rents for property have risen at a very fast pace and first time buyers are stretching themselves to get the maximum return on their investment.

At Silsoe Grange in Bedfordshire, Bloor Homes has released a range of three bedroom homes including the popular Fanhope housetype, which benefits from the new Help To Buy scheme. Vanessa Macnee, Sales Director of Bloor Homes comments: “We have a wide variety of homes available at Silsoe Grange but three bedrooms have proved incredibly popular with first time buyers, second steppers and even downsizers. Those keen to secure a Fanhope design will have to move fast in order to avoid missing out!”

Buyers can secure one of the stunning new homes with just a 5% deposit! Under the Help To Buy initiative, a buyer hoping to purchase a newly built home will be able to take out a mortgage for just 75% of the cost of the property, provided they can put down a 5% deposit. Those who qualify will be eligible for an "equity loan" worth up to 20% of the value of the property, funded by the government, which will be interest-free for the first five years.

The new initiative is an expansion of an existing scheme called First Buy, which went live in 2011, but the new version is open to those looking to move up the housing ladder, as well as first-time buyers. It also has fewer restrictions than First Buy; the maximum property price that will be considered is £600,000 and there is no cap on the maximum amount someone can earn to be eligible.

The Fanhope, which starts at £184,000 (with Help To Buy) offers a spacious lounge, open plan kitchen/dining area including French doors leading to the rear garden, utility and cloakroom. Upstairs, the large master bedroom benefits from both fitted wardrobes and en suite facilities. Bedrooms two and three have access to a separate family bathroom. This property also benefits from a separate garage.

Silsoe village has a range of amenities, including the Star and Garter public house, The George Hotel, as well as newsagents, hairdressers and other local retailers.

A little bit further afield there are leisure activities to suit all ages, whether it is a stroll round the market town of Bedford or a fun day out for all the family at Xscape MK with its indoor ski slope and skydiving.

The development is conveniently situated for travel to surrounding areas, being located between Bedford and Luton on the A6 and Ampthill and Shefford on the A507. For commuters, Flitwick railway station is just five miles away, providing regular services to London in 50 minutes.
