Buyers have been driven to move across the Humber Bridge to Barton following the reduction in toll fees.

Redrow has found that the reduced toll, which came into effect last April, has had a positive effect on the local housing market and has driven more visitors and buyers to its Fox’s Fold development.

For the average commuter, the reduction amounts to a saving of £720 a year. But homebuyers could make much bigger savings by moving to Barton.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), explains: “The number of vehicles crossing the Humber Bridge has increased more than 9% since the toll was halved last April and this is borne out in the profile of visitors to Fox’s Fold. Previously the majority of customers were local, but now majority of visitors are looking to move from the north side of the bridge to Barton.

“In fact 57% of people who have made Fox’s Fold their home in the last year have moved into the area. It shows that following the reduction in the toll fees people have woken up to the advantages of living on the south side of the bridge, where house prices are more affordable.

“For example, according to home.co.uk the average price of a three-bedroom home in Brough is £232,500 and in Beverley the average cost of a four-bedroom home is £344,338. In comparison we have three-bedroom homes available from £124,950 and four-bedroom properties from £136,950. With the chance to save £200,000 off the cost of a house it’s no surprise people are moving to Barton as the price difference could fund thousands of trips across the bridge.”

By moving to a brand new home buyers will benefit from owning a property that’s been designed and built with pride and won’t need lots of costly repairs and renovations. Those who move from an older house should find their fuel bills are much lower as the homes at Fox’s Fold are well insulated, with double glazing and energy efficient central heating systems.

Redrow’s high specification includes well equipped kitchens with integrated top brand name appliances such as oven, hob, microwave and fridge freezer, pus tall cabinets and extra wide drawers that offer plenty of storage; while bathrooms and en-suites enjoy quality fixtures and fittings.

Located in Tofts Road, Fox’s Fold is close to some beautiful countryside and in a friendly market town, which boasts a traditional high street full of locally owned shops.

There are three primary schools within one mile of Fox’s Fold and places to explore in the town include Baysgarth House Museum, the historic Anglo-Saxon St Peter’s Church, the Ropewalk Contemporary Art & Craft Centre and the Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre with its 86-acre country park.
