Respected Japanese tyre manufacturer Toyo Tires has announced its support of the British Army Motorsport Association (BAMA). The move sees the company supplying the Army racers with discount tyres throughout the season as well as prizes for successful competitors and invaluable set-up advice.

As its titles suggests, the British Army Motorsport Association was founded to allow serving soldiers to enjoy a little friendly rivalry with their colleagues and campaign cost-effective race cars in realistic series – often in fierce rivalry with their colleagues from the other services! Covering a number of disciplines including Sprinting, Endurance and circuit-based Saloon Car Racing, the BAMA has now been officially recognised as an MOD sport, offering the chance for service personnel to get involved at every level.

The cars chosen have so far proven to be quite diverse. Classics like the Sierra Cosworth, through to much more attainable machinery like the Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 306. Irrespective of cost though, all competitors seem determined to approach the sport with the same mix of camaraderie, enthusiasm and competitive spirit – An ideal fit for Toyo’s brand ethos.

Commenting on the deal, Toyo’s motorsport manager Alan Meaker said, ‘We are understandably delighted to be involved with the excellent work that the British Army Motorsport Association is doing. The guys are clearly out to have fun, but many of the cars are really well prepped, and by offering our tyres at a competitive price, we hope we can help them raise their own technical advantage a little. With so many dedicated club championships relying on Toyo products as control rubber we also have a wealth of set-up data for the guys to work with. It already looks like being a great season!’
