The Welsh housing economy was given an uplifting prognosis for 2013, after one of the country’s largest housing developers announced plans to open seven new sites across the East of Wales.

Persimmon Homes East Wales revealed the new developments, located in Gilwern, Barry, Rhydfelin, Church Village, Marshfield, Little Mill and Castle Heights and Bridgend, will all open before October.

This will be the highest number of sites opened by Persimmon Homes in Wales in such a short space of time since the recession hit in 2009, and demonstrates a positive year ahead for the Welsh housing economy.

Persimmon Homes is now looking to recruit five local sales people to manage the new developments and deal with the anticipated increase in enquiries. Duties will include managing the day to day running of the marketing suites and showing customers around showhomes.

The new sites set to open later this year include Ty Mawr in Gilwern, The Hedgerows in Barry, Milford Park in Rhydfelin, Church Village, Acorn Walk in Marshfield, The Retreat in Little Mill and Castle Heights, ParcDerwen, in Bridgend.

Showhomes will open to the public in Barry and Rhydfelin as soon as July.

Sharon Robinson, sales director at Persimmon East Wales, said: “Despite talk of a triple dip recession the housing market is definitely not in the perilous state it was a few years ago.

“We’ve been seeing real signs of encouragement, including first time buyers showing a big interest in our developments, and are very confident that the housing economy in East Wales is on the up.”

Sharon continued: “We’re delighted to announce that we will be expanding in the region and opening seven new sites later this year with our showhomes in Barry and Rhydfelin opening in July.

“By the end of the year we will have launched nine brand new housing developments which demonstrates a really positive outlook for the future of the Welsh housing economy.”
