In the wake of fuel bill price hikes from various energy suppliers, Storey Homes’ latest collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses at Vulcan Rise, near Ramsey in Cambridgeshire can help home buyers reduce their fuel bills. The homes feature air source heat pumps to provide central heating, which are extremely energy efficient and can save the consumer up to £130 a year in energy costs.

New homes can be 55 per cent cheaper to run than typical Victorian or Edwardian properties — saving £1,300 a year on a four-bedroom detached house, according to housing researcher NHBC Foundation.

Matthew Storey, Director at Storey Homes comments: “Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air to heat radiators, which is an extremely energy efficient way of heating homes. Not only do they result in lower fuel bills but they also have impressive green credentials as they can reduce carbon emissions by up to 70%.”

Matthew continues “Often the comparison between the cost of running an older property and a new build home can be surprising. The properties at Vulcan Rise are built with energy saving in mind, with effective insulation and double glazed windows that keep your house warm.”

The 14 two, three and four bedroom houses have views over the open countryside. In addition to the energy efficient air source heat pumps, the homes are designed to meet the standards of the Code 3 for sustainable homes. The Code uses a 1 to 6 star rating system to show the overall sustainability performance of a new home. It sets minimum standards for energy and water use at each level, which provides valuable information to home buyers and offers builders a tool with which to differentiate themselves in sustainability terms.

The homes are also fitted with specialist designer kitchens featuring A+ rated appliances, meaning they have lower running costs. Each property also features luxury bathrooms and en-suite shower rooms to the master bedrooms. To help keep the fuel bills down, low energy extractor fans are fitted to bathrooms / utility rooms and WC and low energy light fittings are featured in the living rooms / kitchens / hall and landings.

Valiant Square formerly provided accommodation for married officers serving at RAF Upwood, which originally opened in 1917, closed in 1995 and played a major role in the character and recent history of nearby Bury and Ramsey.

The bustling town provides a selection of shops, cafes and public houses, amply accommodating everyday needs. For fitness enthusiasts, a sports centre, bowls club, tennis clubs and Ramsey Golf club are within easy reach. Families are also well catered for, with a good selection of primary, secondary and sixth-form schools.
