Looking for a unique, new sport to try whilst on holiday? Head to Gran Canaria, often dubbed as the European Hawaii - thanks to its ideal surfing conditions - to try stand-up paddle boarding, the latest craze to hit the world of surfing!

Stand up paddle boarding is a great low impact sport which can be used to improve posture and balance, whilst allowing greater visibility – offering the best way to explore the reefs of Las Canteras beach and other beautiful islands of Gran Canaria. Paddle surfing is also great for fitness fanatics as it is both aerobic and anaerobic, particularly working the abdominal and arm muscles.

In Gran Canaria, MojoSurf Surf School offers initiation lessons for beginners and first timers in small groups with a fully-qualified instructor. Once at least two hours of initiation lessons have been completed, students can go on guided ‘Voyages’ and visit every corner of the stunning bay, discovering beautiful hidden coves, coral reefs and spectacular marine life. The water around the island is crystal clear and home to a large variety of sea life which is unique to the location in the Atlantic Ocean.

Only a short 4-hour flight away, the Spanish island of Gran Canaria enjoys a microclimate averaging 24 degrees all year round, with sea temperatures rarely dropping below 18 degrees even in the winter, making it the perfect destination to try one of the many water sports on offer.

Stand-up paddle boarding lessons with MojoSurf cost from £21 for a 2 hour lesson including equipment.
