Cool off in some of the UK's finest outdoor pools

18th July 2013 Print

With the heat wave looking set to continue, why not take a dip in one of these stylish Pride of Britain Hotels outdoor pools at various locations dotted around the country.

Easily accessible from London and set in 66 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside, Tylney Hall Hotel’s outdoor pool is located next to the impressive Grade II listed main house and is surrounded by clipped hedges and a relaxing lawned area. On a smaller scale, Maison Talbooth is a charming Victorian country house housing 12 suites and set in Constable country near Dedham. The outdoor pool is heated year-round, so you can enjoy it whatever the weather, and there’s a pool house, log burning fire and hot tub.

If you prefer to be beside the seaside, it’s hard to beat the location of The Nare Hotel, overlooking Carne Beach and Cornwall’s beautiful Roseland Peninsula. You can also hire the hotel’s private yacht which is skippered by the manager and explore the stunning coastline. Or if you have several kids in tow, Thurlestone in South Devon has a superb heated outdoor pool with a children’s paddling pool and is walking distance from a Blue Flag beach. The Dolphin Children’s Club is running until 31st August and includes a daily programme or activities from nature trails to tennis tournaments.

Perfect for couples, The Feversham Arms in the sought-after market town of Helmsley has a stylish outdoor pool, an award-winning restaurant, a cocktail bar and a spa yet is only a short distance from the wilds of the North Yorkshire Moors. The Galtres Parklands Festival (23 – 25 August) will be taking place next month with headline acts including Maximo Park, The Stranglers and 80s singer Lloyd Cole.

And in the Garden of England in Kent, Eastwell Manor’s outdoor pool overlooks the hotel’s immaculate 3,000 acre grounds that nestle in a fold of the North Downs. There is a helipad at the hotel (no landing charges) and people have been known to fly in and out for afternoon tea – so why not pop in for a swim too?

Lead-in price: Eastwell Manor is currently offering a Summer Sizzler rate from £225 per room (two sharing) including three-course Table d'hote dinner with bottle of house wine, overnight en-suite accommodation (Manor room or Mews cottage), one spa treatment per guest and use of the spa facilities including indoor and outdoor pools, golf and gym.

Pride of Britain Hotels is a consortium of 46 privately-owned independent British hotels and spas and is also the official hotel partner to the National Trust. Admission to the group is subject to each hotel successfully passing an anonymous overnight inspection and a ballot of the membership. The consortium is limited to a maximum of 50 hotels to guarantee quality and exclusiveness.
