Brits ditch holidays with friends in favour of family vacations

30th July 2013 Print

When it comes to holidays, it appears that the days of lads’ weekends and girlie getaways are on the way out, with 58 per cent of Brits admitting they prefer going on holiday with family rather than friends. In fact, 6 per cent would rather leave everyone behind and head off on their own, whilst holidaying with pals was the preferred option for just 17 per cent of Brits, according to data released today.

The data, from a study commissioned by travel comparison site KAYAK.co.uk, examines the holiday habits of Brits, looking into who they like to travel with, the number of holidays they take each year and how long they spend planning their trip. It unveils that although a third of Brits usually travel abroad, almost a quarter (23%) prefers to remain in the UK and enjoy a staycation, which is unsurprising given the recent heat wave. This cost effective option also means that over a fifth (21%) of Brits get to go away more than three times a year and almost half (46%) enjoy two or more holidays annually.

Despite staying close to home, British females still like to ensure that everything is just so for their holiday, with more than a fifth (23%) spending over a month planning and booking their break. This is in contrast to the 11 per cent of men who like to make a quick decision and take less than 12 hours to organise their trip.

Annie Wilson, Managing Director, KAYAK UK, commented: “Family holidays are a great way to reconnect and spend some quality time with kids and partners, and the results show that Brits are embracing their holiday time from work to do just that. However, there will probably always be a time and place for weekends away with friends. At KAYAK we help make planning for any type of holiday as easy as possible, whether it’s America with the family or Malta with your friends.”
