Great Wall Tracker Review

30th July 2013 Print

With over four million commercial vehicles on UK roads, it is clear to see that manufacturers are capitalising on an increasingly lucrative market. One of the most popular vehicles in recent years has been the double cab pick-up truck, offering a spacious rear cargo area, off-road capabilities and a comfortable driving experience.

The latest company to enter the market is Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors, with over 700,000 models of its Steed pick-up truck already sold around the world.

One model in particular, the Steed Tracker, is starting to attract attention thanks to its all-terrain potential and luxurious features. Here is a closer look at the latest pick-up to hit the market.

Performance

The Great Wall Steed Tracker is powered by a direct injection 2.0-litre turbo charged diesel engine. Combining power with efficiency, this impressive powertrain is able to return 34mpg on a combined cycle. What's more, its 70-litre fuel tank ensures that this particular vehicle won't have an adverse effect on your wallet unlike other gas guzzling pick-ups available.

It is no secret that 4x4 trucks are able to deal with difficult driving conditions and the Steed Tracker is no different. In addition to a six-speed manual transmission with low range 4WD, the Tracker has been designed with off-road pursuits in mind. General Grabber AT tyres as well as front and rear mud flaps, ensures this vehicle can deal with even the most troublesome terrain.

The Tracker can also pull large weights with ease; it has the ability to pull a trailer or caravan weighing up to 2.5 tonnes, with tow bar and electrics as standard features

Features

Don’t be mistaken in thinking that the Tracker will be lacking in features, as the exterior and interior additions are plentiful.

With 16-inch alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers, and electric chrome door mirrors, the attention to detail is outstanding. On the inside, the driver is greeted with leather upholstery, heated front seats, electric windows and air conditioning.

When it comes to in-car entertainment, the Tracker has an Alpine CD Radio with USB compatibility and four surround-sound speakers. Steering wheel audio controls and Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connectivity ensure that the driver's attention never strays from what's ahead.

In terms of safety and security, the Tracker has driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake force distribution.

Price and verdict

Available today, the Great Wall Steed Tracker is on the market for just £14,998 exc. VAT, one of the most affordable pick-up trucks money can buy. Insurance Group 8A means your annual premium will also be a pleasant surprise.

A range of impressive features, commendable performance figures and the ability to cope with various conditions makes the Tracker a superb option for those who love the great outdoors.
