More than just a little ‘feel good’

31st July 2013 Print

It may have this week emerged that the UK has seen a 0.5% rise in people’s happiness and well-being over the last year but currently, nearly a quarter of Britons have been identified as feeling good about themselves everyday.

Focussing onthe Olympics and Diamond Jubilee as reasons for this well-being, research commissioned by Transform Cosmetic Surgery, actually found that the UK is feeling positive for many other reasons, with a substantial 61% of Brits stating doing good deeds for others is what makes them feel good.

37% of Brits said sex is what makes them feel good and other contenders include receiving a compliment, which was seen to change a day for the better and left half of all Brits with a spring in their step, whilst spending time with family induced good feelings for nearly three quarters of all respondents.

For nearly half (45.4%) of the respondents, cooking for loved ones was a feel good factor, together with being told you look younger than you are (43.3%) and being acknowledged by strangers (32.9%) are all reasons that the men and women of the UK are feeling on top of the world.

The climax of this research was the UK’s first National Feel Good Day, which took place on 19th July and saw the entire nation dedicating their time to giving each other a boost through complimenting friends, family, colleagues and even strangers in everyday life and on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #feelgood and #feelgoodday. Brits got fully behind the day socially, with it appearing on national TV and receiving over 5,000 mentions on twitter alone.

Commenting on the findings and National Feel Good Campaign, Steven Taylor, Marketing Director at Transform Cosmetic Surgery said: “Our research has highlighted that we all have a great deal to feel good about and ultimately shout about. With the fabulous summer we’ve had and these positive findings, it demonstrates that how we’re feeling right now is actually going from strength to strength.

“Our Feel Good Campaign inspired the nation to feel good about themselves, and celebrate their own achievements, however small and we’re delighted that it was such a success. The nation got fully on-board with the campaign and really wanted to have their spirits lifted even further; and we hope that this helps in continuing to produce a nation of confident, happy and complimentary Britons.”
