Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC

Honda has confirmed pricing and specifications for the British built CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC, which is set to arrive in Honda dealerships this October. Available in three trim levels, prices for this new variant start at £22,800 OTR for the entry level S, £24,660 OTR for the SE and £26,880 OTR for the 1.6 i-DTEC range topping SR trim.

The new 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine made its debut in the British built Civic earlier this year and now it’s making its way into the popular CR-V. With increasing demand for lower cost motoring, the trend for two-wheel diesel SUVs has grown and now represents over a quarter of the total C-SUV market in Europe. The new CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC is tackling this trend head on.

With the new 1.6 i-DTEC engine in the CR-V, customers get the best of both worlds; the practicality and styling of an SUV with the lower emission and fuel efficiency that a small diesel engine offers. Fuel economy on the combined cycle is up to an impressive 62.8 mpg and means the CR-V has the potential to cover up to 800 miles on one tank of fuel. In addition, CO2 emissions as low as 119g/km mean the CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC qualifies for just £0 road tax for the first year and as low as £30 annual road tax thereafter.

The introduction of this new engine ensures that the CR-V is an appealing proposition in the competitive corporate market. This new variant is expected to help the CR-V make an appearance on more fleet listings as it slips below the 120 g/km barrier and is 2WD. The car’s combination of impressive fuel economy and agile performance, combined with the practicality and luggage space the CR-V is famed for, plus Honda’s acknowledged reputation for reliability, it’s a car which is expected to catch the eye of company car fleet managers and user choosers. In the current tax year 2013/14, CR-V 1.6 S and SE grades will benefit from P11D tax rates starting from 18 per cent, only increasing by 1 per cent in tax year 2014/15, making for a highly tax efficient vehicle. Benefits to both the fleet manager and user choosers are further increased with an outstanding combined cycle of 62.8 mpg.

Generous specifications at a competitive price

The new CR-V will be available with three generously equipped trim levels - S, SE and SR. The entry level S costs £22,800 OTR and features DAB Radio, dual zone climate control air conditioning, cruise control, electric adjustable and heated door mirrors, USB connectivity, steering wheel remote audio controls, 5-inch Intelligent Multi Info Display (i-MID), 17” alloy wheels as well as all the driver safety aids such as ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), driver seat power lumber support and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) as standard.

An optional T Grade is also available on the S specification and for an additional £765 it adds SD Navigation system and Bluetooth Hands Free Telephone (HFT).

The next step up is the SE at £24,660 OTR featuring all the equipment found in the S model but with the addition of front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, Bluetooth Hands Free Telephone (HFT), CAT 1 alarm with ultrasonic sensor, leather steering wheel, leather gear shift, rain sensing auto wipers, dusk sensing auto lights and auto dim rear view mirror. SE customers also have the opportunity to upgrade to the T Grade to include the SD satellite navigation system.

The SR tops off the CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC range at £26,880 OTR with standard goodies including, Alcantara/leather upholstery, heated front seats, premium audio with subwoofer, painted roof rails, privacy glass, Bi-HID xenon headlights with auto levelling, active cornering lights, High Beam Support System (HSS), headlight washers, front fog lights, driver and passenger seat power lumber support and 18" alloy wheels.

Technical detail

The CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC is available in two-wheel drive only and features a 6-speed manual gearbox with an exact capacity of 1597cc. It offers a maximum power output of 120PS at 4,000rpm while maximum torque is 300Nm at 2,000rpm.

The combination of a light weight engine and two-wheel drive system means that the new CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC weighs 116kg less than the 2.2 i-DTEC model which not only helps to bring down emissions and achieve better fuel economy, but ensures sure-footedness whilst also delivering agile handling.

The styling maintains the same confident stance adopted at the introduction of the 4th generation CR-V and retains the impressive practicality with up to 1669 litres of luggage capacity. The new CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC also features Honda’s easy fold-down 60/40 split rear seats which can be folded flat in one movement. At the pull of a handle, the CR-V can be transformed from a five-seater passenger car into a versatile load-lugger.

Built in Britain

The all-new powerplant has been developed exclusively for Europe, and tested extensively on a variety of roads across the continent. As with the CR-V itself, the engine has been built at Honda’s state-of-the-art factory in Swindon.
