She was one of the world's most beautiful women, and a style icon, but this isn't the reason why 28% of the British public think she deserves a statue. It's to do with her wisdom instead.

As part of the 'Word To The Wise' advertising campaign by TK Maxx, people across the UK were asked which modern-day celebrities they felt deserved to be commemorated by a statue and Princess Diana came second, beaten only by Sir David Attenborough.

According to a recent YouGov survey of 2069 adults, more than a quarter of people believe Diana deserved the commemoration, with celebrities such as J K Rowling, Richard Branson and David Bowie coming in behind the fondly remembered royal.

1 David Attenborough 35%
2 Princess Diana 28%
3 Sir Tim Berners-Lee 14%
4 Sir Alex Ferguson 13%
5 Richard Branson 10%
6 Sebastian Coe 7%
7 J K Rowling 6%
8 David Bowie 5%
9 Jessica Ennis-Hill 4%
10 Vivienne Westwood 2%

Part of the 'Word To The Wise' campaign involved accessorising statues across the UK overnight to remind people of wise and historically important figures, and celebrate their achievements. It came in reaction to another statistic from the YouGov survey which revealed around one in five (22%) of the UK - *estimated at around 10.6 million people - never even notice statues.

TK Maxx spokesperson Helen Gunter, said, "It's such a shame that statues of some of the world's greatest icons are too often overlooked rather than appreciated for their wisdom and incredible achievements.

Fans will be able to see 'Diana' the movie starring Naomi Watts on the 20th of September, but they will have to wait a little longer for a statue.
