Work has officially started on a new £1 million community and sports centre at Taylor Wimpey’s The Parks development in Bracknell Forest.

The leading housebuilder is providing the new community facility that will boast a main sports hall, meeting rooms and changing rooms alongside the new-build houses and apartments at the new development.

A special ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site on Tuesday 3rd September, which was attended by Alan Pitt and Paul Mills from Taylor Wimpey, Robert Bottomley, Paul Gross and Naomi Bottomley from contractor Claude Fenton, Guy Norton from project managers MDA, Bracknell Forest Council members Shelagh Pile, Trevor Kensall, Chris Turrell and Iain McCracken, and chairman of the local residents’ association Paul Regan.

Work on the project, which will also include an all-weather multi-use games area, a cricket pitch and football and rugby pitches, is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Alan Pitt, Senior Technical Co-ordinator for Taylor Wimpey West London, says: “The land was formerly used as an RAF staff training college and it had a number of sports facilities on site, so part of the design brief was to replace the existing facilities and make available for the residents of the new development and the wider community.

“The centre will make a fantastic difference to the community, and to have these facilities right on their doorstep will be wonderful for the residents of The Parks. Now we just have to get on and deliver it!”

Located only a mile from Bracknell town centre, The Parks is well placed for a wide selection of supermarkets and leisure amenities, including Princess Square Shopping Centre, plus a choice of cafes, bars and restaurants.

The development also benefits from a wealth of open space on the doorstep, with acres of public parkland being created alongside the new home for residents to enjoy.

Families will appreciate that local schools have an excellent reputation, and for commuters, the railway station is a mile from the development, offering regular services to London’s Waterloo and Paddington in 60 minutes, and Reading in just 20 minutes. The M3 and M4 are accessible via the location’s good road links.

There is currently a selection of four-bedroom properties available to buy at The Parks, with prices starting from £420,000.
