Honda has revealed that the hotly anticipated new Civic Type R will be powered by a direct injection turbocharged 2-litre engine and will deliver at least 280 PS. The car has already been put through its paces by Honda’s WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini and a film demonstrating its storming performance and handling on the Nurburgring can be viewed at myjourneys.com/typer.

Last year Honda confirmed ambitions for the Civic Type R to become the fastest front wheel drive car around the infamous Nurburgring circuit in Germany. The car still faces a further two years of development before going on sale in 2015 however, on-track testing has already begun. Speaking at the Frankfurt Motor Show Manabu Nishimae, President, Honda Motor Europe, added; “We have recently spent a week at the Nurburgring, carrying out extensive testing and we are on target, and have already set a time approaching the lap record.”

Honda has also confirmed the Civic Tourer will achieve impressively low CO2 emissions from just 99g/km and an outstanding 74.3mpg when powered by Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC engine. The British built Civic Tourer builds on the strengths of the hatchback model, offering class leading boot space and practicality and will go on sale in early 2014.

"For me, the strength of the car is the synergy of functionality, versatility, and dynamic design. As a European development team, we’re passionate and proud about what we’ve achieved”, said Adrian Killham, Large Project Leader for Civic Tourer.
