The hunt is back on for ghosts and ghouls this October at Oxford Castle Unlocked as the award-winning Ghost Fest returns for the eighth year with its most thrilling line-up yet:

Brand new for 2013, Terror Tuesdays will see the castle prison transformed into Oxford’s only scare attraction. Held every Tuesday in October and November, visitors should prepare for genuine horror and flesh-crawling encounters as they feel their way through the real prison hospital into the remains of the subterranean crypt. With 1,000 years of imprisonment, execution and madness behind the walls, there is no corner untouched by evil.

Families can enjoy the ghoulish action as October half term, from Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November, will see the characters of Oxford Castle Unlocked embroiled in a murder mystery that visitors will be tasked to solve! Safe trick or treating nights on Saturday 26, Saturday 27 and Thursday 31 October rounds off the half term fun.

Friday and Saturday nights throughout the month will be filled with ghost hunts, vigils and paranormal experiments around the haunted site, which is renowned for its 1000 years of gruesome history as a castle and prison.

Special spooky tours of the castle will also be on offer on select evenings throughout Ghost Fest, when the tour guides get a macabre makeover and take great delight in divulging the more chilling secrets of the site.

Oxford Castle Unlocked has teamed up with restaurants in Oxford Castle Quarter to offer a sinister journey inside the haunted heart of the former Royal residence and prison, rounded off with a sumptuous three course meal. The After Dark Dinners will take place every Thursday evening in October and November starting at 6.30pm, with prices from £20.

Haunting its way through history, Oxford Castle Unlocked is recognised as one of the spookiest buildings in Britain. The visitor attraction has hosted Ghost Fest since it was opened by the Queen in 2006 and is rumoured to be home to 15 paranormal spirits!

Oxford Castle Unlocked is a 1000-year castle, which was also used as a place of incarceration for over 800 years. The attraction offers a 40-minute guided tour with a costumed character from the castle’s history, exploring the Saxon stone-built St. George’s Tower, the atmospheric crypt, the preserved prison wing and the archaic man-made mound offering breath-taking views of Oxford.

Oxford Castle Unlocked is open daily from 10.00am to 5.30pm (last tour 4.20pm). For further information or to book online, visit oxfordcastleunlocked.co.uk.
