Protect yourself against the thieves playing i spy

12th September 2013 Print

If you believe the hype, many smartphone addicts will be clamouring to upgrade their handsets with the launch of the new Apple iPhone 5S this week.

Although many people will get hold of the gadget as part of their mobile contract, the new iPhone has a price-tag of up to £709 - so what happens if your new phone is lost, stolen or damaged?

The price of handsets is usually absorbed into the cost of a monthly phone contract. However, if it is lost or damaged mid-contract it will usually be down to the user to pay for a replacement if they don't have standalone mobile phone insurance. And with a reported 300,000 phones stolen each year, a new smartphone could unfortunately become a target for thieves.

Fortunately, Nationwide FlexPlus Current Account customers can upgrade to the latest iPhone, or Android, Windows and BlackBerry handsets, safe in the knowledge they will have worldwide mobile phone insurance that provides cover for their entire family. The cover insures FlexPlus customers against damage, loss or theft.  Handsets are covered up to a limit of £1,000 per handset, as well as accessories of up to £250 per claim, and up to £2,000 per claim for unauthorised charges.

Phil Smith, Nationwide's Head of Current Accounts, said; "Practically every adult in the UK now has a mobile phone. It's become a way of life and, for many of us, that phone is one of our most crucial and treasured personal possessions. Because of this we were determined to ensure that worthwhile worldwide mobile phone insurance was an integral part of the benefits available through our packaged current account, FlexPlus. With this insurance, rated five-star by independent financial research company Defaqto, FlexPlus customers can enjoy their new phones without worry."
