The Great Aurora Hunt

Looking for that perfect way to ring in the New Year? Ever dreamt of seeing the Northern Lights in all their glory?  Guests on Taber Holidays ‘ brand new ‘Great Aurora Hunt’ can hopefully do just that, and what’s more, capture the moment forever on this exciting photography tour.  The four-night itinerary departs on Monday 30 December and offers expert tuition by day, while evenings, including New Years Eve, are spent searching for and photographing the Northern Lights. Prices start from just £1,575pp.

Led by veteran aurora photographer, British-born Andy Keen, the specialist tour to Norway’s stunning Lofoten Islands features a dedicated Northern Lights photography workshop with an introduction to time lapse photography. Andy, a passionate aurora hunter and award-winning photographer, has spent over 6,000 hours under the Northern Lights and accumulated thousands of pictures of this spellbinding phenomenon.

Three nights will be spent in pursuit of the lights, with Andy monitoring the weather conditions carefully in order to maximise the chances of seeing them. As well as chasing clear skies, all locations visited will be remote with little chance of light pollution, ensuring the best conditions for both sightings and photography.

While the main focus is on the Northern Lights, the trip also provides plenty of tips and opportunities for taking incredible images by day. Two additional workshops, ‘photographing land and seascapes’ and ‘how to capture moving wildlife’ also feature in the itinerary.

New Years Day is spent exploring and photographing the Lofoten archipelago, visiting amongst other places, the beautiful fishing village of Henningsvær. In addition, a sea eagle and nature safari by boat is included the following day. This starts with a lecture on local birds, mammals, geology and climate before sailing into the beautiful Vestfjord and areas around the famous Trollfjord where you are likely to spot the eagles and other sea birds at close range. You may even be lucky enough to see orcas, porpoises and pilot whales.

No previous photography experience is necessary to take part in this tour and it is also suitable for those who don’t wish to take pictures but want to hunt for lights and enjoy the scenery. All photographic workshops are optional (although they are included in the price).
