Debenhams celebrates 200 year anniversary with Limited Edition Collection

Debenhams will celebrate its 200 year anniversary this year with a unique and exclusive Limited Edition Collection from its Designers at Debenhams.

One of the best known names in retail, Debenhams has 240 stores across 28 countries. Debenhams invented the designer collaboration concept and now has a stable of 32 internationally renowned designers and is set to celebrate 21 years of Designers at Debenhams next year.

Debenhams Chief Executive Michael Sharp says: “We are delighted to be celebrating 200 years as one of the best loved retailers and feel privileged to have been serving the public for two centuries.”

The Limited Edition Collection of glamorous dresses, beautiful coats and luxurious leather accessories from fashion week’s favourites will allow customers to own a piece of retail history.

The collection is due to launch in October, but its waiting list, opening today, will allow customers to pre-order pieces from Britain’s top designers.

Hero pieces include a floor length gold sequin glamorous dress from Star by Julien Macdonald, a luxury leather nude coat from Betty Jackson. Black and a collection of premium leather handbags and purses.

Sharp continues: “We are thrilled to be offering our customers a chance to commemorate this momentous anniversary with a collection from our most influential designers.”

Designer at Debenhams Henry Holland says: “Working with Debenhams has allowed me to reach out to women through my designs and dress them in exciting, affordable fashion. I hope our partnership continues for many years to come.”

Julien Macdonald commented: "Congratulations Debenhams on your 200 year anniversary! I have loved every minute of being a Designer at Debenhams over the past ten years. It has been an exciting, interesting and glamorous experience.”

The Limited Edition Collection also includes decorative plates and mugs from Star by Julien Macdonald, Rocha. John Rocha, Ben de Lisi and Butterfly by Matthew Williamson.

The birthday comes at a very special time for the department store as it prepares to re-launch its flagship Oxford Street store later this year after a multi-million pound refurbishment.

The retailer has also recently introduced three new designers at Debenhams.

Savile Row tailor Patrick Grant has launched a menswear collection; Hammond & Co by Patrick Grant.

Interiors designers’ Abigail Ahern and Vikki Elizabeth have joined the Edition home concept with two new homeware collections and fashion week favourite Todd Lynn/Edition will also launch in stores next month, further boosting the retailer’s fashion credentials.

Michael Sharp concludes: “We are very excited about what the next 200 years will bring and our Designers at Debenhams concept continues to grow.”

The 200 year collection will be available in limited stores nationwide and online at Debenhams.com.

Prices range from £12.50 - £299.
