Tailor-made adventure specialist Chameleon Worldwide has created the ultimate activity holiday for those who would rather swing through the trees like a monkey than lounge on a sunbed like a sloth: Adventure Costa Rica.
The 13-day trip has a packed itinerary with action galore including rafting, zip-lining, abseiling, hiking, kayaking, biking, horse riding and more.
The holiday has been carefully crafted by the Chameleon team which, in addition to some of Costa Rica’s well-known and popular highlights, also includes some more off-the-beaten-track areas.
The holiday commences in the capital San Jose, before heading to Trogon Lodge in San Gerardo de Dota for two nights, an area of cloud forest, for activities including canopy tours, walks and horse riding.
On day four there will be a chance to go rafting through the jungle on the Pacuare River; a 17 mile ride with stunning natural beauty and exciting Class III and IV white water rapids whilst watching out for ocelots, monkeys and hundreds of birds.
Two nights will then be spent at Hacienda Pozo Azul sleeping in a tented suite by night whilst spending the days on a floating safari observing wildlife on the way including howler monkeys and toucans. The River Sarapiqui also offers some excellent rafting, great walking trails and horse rides.
Next up is Tortuguero National Park on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast for two nights, with its mangrove coastline famous for its nesting turtles.
Explore the network of channels by boat, observing birds, reptiles, monkeys, caiman and otters. The beaches are nesting sites for four different types of turtle - globally important for these graceful marine reptiles.
The next two days of the itinerary are spent at Selva Bananito, a beautiful and remote eco lodge in the middle of the rainforest for a canopy tour and other optional activities including tree climbing, waterfall abseiling, horse-rides and walks.
The final two nights are spent relaxing on the beach on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coastline.
