Feels like a book, reads like a book; Open up to new Reader

8th October 2013 Print
Sony Reader

Open up to a smarter, more satisfying reading experience. Slim, light and a pleasure to hold, the new Reader from Sony re-writes the book on eReading.

Pencil-thin and the size of a small paperback, it’s the only e-Reader that includes its own protective snap cover. Don’t fiddle with power buttons or menus: just open the cover and instantly carry on reading from where you left off. With its integrated cover, new Reader is perfectly balanced for comfortable one-handed reading when you’re standing in a crowded rush-hour train.

Sony’s most advanced Reader yet builds on the success of previous models, giving book lovers an immersive experience so natural you’ll forget you’re reading from a screen.

It’s our highest ever resolution Reader; the paper-like E-ink screen is sharper and clearer than ever, with crisp text that’s wonderfully easy to read. Every page turn is beautifully smooth, too. Thanks to advanced page refresh technology by Sony, you can stay focused on the story with an unprecedented 4 hours of flicker-free page turns. Press forward/back page turn buttons or simply swipe the touchscreen to read on – it’s wonderfully intuitive. When you’re done, close the cover to save power and protect the screen until you’re ready to read on.

Feel the need to read but don’t have time to hang around? A three minute Quick Charge gives enough battery power to read a chunky 600-page novel in the time it makes to grab a coffee. Fully charged, the battery lasts for two whole months of regular reading – plenty for the longest, laziest holiday.

There are plenty of tools built-in for true book lovers. Touch a word on-screen to look it up in a choice of five monolingual dictionaries, as well as a range of translation dictionaries including French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Italian.

Built-in Wi-Fi enriches your reading experience whenever you’re near a hotspot. Google the author’s name or update your Facebook page with memorable quotes. Easily scribble handwritten notes or underline key passages on the touchscreen: Evernote saves your comments and highlighted passages for future reference.

Being connected puts an even wider world of stories at your fingertips. Buy eBooks direct, without even hooking up Reader to your PC. You can literally carry a whole library in your hands. There’s space in the internal memory for 1200 eBooks – or slip in an optional MicroSD card to store tens of thousands more. Support for the open EPUB format lets you purchase stories from a huge range of online stores store. You can even borrow EPUB eBooks from libraries and get some titles for free.

Want to keep reading long into the night? There’s an optional cover with integrated light that snaps on to your Reader, bathing each page in smooth, natural illumination.

The new Reader from Sony is available in Europe from September (launch timing varies by country)
