Their Gromit may have gone but bosses at Crest Nicholson’s Harbourside development are working on a formula to show just how popular the loveable sculpture proved during its ten-week stay.

Budding Einsteins at the award-winning waterside development are trying to quantify their Gromit’s success which not only raised thousands of pounds for the Bristol Children’s Hospital but also boosted the city’s profile around the world.

Crest Nicholson’s sculpture – named Gromit-O-Matic – attracted thousands of people to the sales and marketing suite at Harbourside, which formed one of the stops on Bristol’s hugely successful Gromit Unleashed Trail.

Sales and Marketing Director Susan Young said: “We’re trying to work out our Gromit a go-go factor but it was clearly a huge success for all of Bristol and especially the children’s hospital. We’re delighted to have played our part in what has been a staggeringly successful appeal.

“We’re taking on board the average daily footfall over the 10 week stay, the total amount raised for the appeal and how many visitors also took time to check out our waterside apartments.

“Reports suggest that more than a million people made a special trip to the city to see the Gromits spending more than £120m while they were in Bristol.

“Looking at our own figures it’s clear the last few months have seen a significant increase in enquiries with no fewer than 19 off plan sales already confirmed at the latest phase of Invicta.

“I’m sure there are mathematical whizzkids out there who could come up with a round figure for the benefit the Gromits brought not only to Harbourside but the city as a whole.

“But visitors attracted into the city have certainly had a chance to see the transformation of the Harbourside into a fantastic place where people can live, work and enjoy their leisure time.”

Crest Nicholson’s Gromit was designed by Donough ? Malley and was sold at last week’s star studded auction for £26,000 – part of the staggering £2.3m raised on the night for Bristol Children’s Hospital’s Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal.
