Around four million of us regularly work from home, according to statistics, which reveal a 13 per cent rise in the trend during the past five years.

As flexible working becomes increasingly popular among commuters with computers and parents working on a part-time basis – more and more workers and those who are self-employed are placing a priority on their work/life balance.

And helping the area’s homeworkers to have greater control over their lives is Linden Homes – which recognises the needs of people with busy lifestyles.

The survey, carried out by the TUC earlier this year, shows a 10.7 per cent rise in the number of men and woman who usually work from home in the East Midlands, and a 12.5 per cent rise in the East of England.

And with a selection of house designs across the region that incorporate space for a home office or study – Linden Homes is offering teleworkers a greater choice to meet that demand.

Sales director Chris Roads said: “With extremely busy lives juggling work, home, care and family – being able to enjoy the flexibility that having an office from home can offer is hugely attractive to many of our customers.

“This can range from someone who is based at home for the majority of their working week, or those who simply need a temporary and more convenient base away from the office – for commuting or caring commitments.”

Other findings of the survey (based on figures from 2007 – 2012) show:

Nearly two-thirds (65 per cent) of people who work from home are male.

The majority of homeworking jobs created in the last five years have gone to women. The rise in female homeworking is partly due to the fact that almost nine out of 10 of these jobs have been part time.

In addition to the four million people who usually work from home, the Government estimates a further 4.5 million of us would like to work from home more often.

Linden Homes is currently building across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. For more information of where and what Linden Homes is building near you, visit lindenhomes.co.uk.
