Eurotech Racing has selected Zircotec to provide thermal management coatings for its latest historic race car build, a Ford GT40. Winners in BTCC, Porsches, rallycross and historic motorsport, the Mike Jordan-run team has won in all the categories in which it has competed. Its expertise, derived from winning at the top level of British motorsport, has seen it apply this knowledge to produce highly regarded historic race cars equipped with the most appropriate technology for performance and period look. First time out with the Zircotec Performance Range coating resulted in the 1965 GT40 achieving pole position in an all GT40 race at the 2013 Goodwood Revival Meeting, with a subsequent pole position the following weekend at the Six Hours of Spa.

“Following a highly successful debut for Zircotec’s technology on our BTCC car when we secured two race victories in a day, we have now looked to use its ceramic technology on the GT40,” says Eurotech principal Mike Jordan. “First time out and we put the car on pole ahead of all the others. We will be looking to see how Zircotec can be used to enhance the performance of the growing number of other race cars we are preparing.”

Historically Eurotech Racing used high temperature paints or wraps in an attempt to minimise heat transfer and the associated reliability and paint damage concerns. Neither was effective and deemed insufficient for the higher demands placed on historic race cars today through more developed engines, tyres and fuels. Eurotech’s solution was to select Zircotec’s ThermoHold® ceramic exhaust coating, providing a durable and aesthetic finish that offered 30 percent lower exhaust surface temperatures. Available in a range of 14 colours, Eurotech Racing was also able to select a subtle surface finish that looked period correct, crucial for events such as Goodwood where cars must visually resemble how they looked in period.

“Ceramic coatings provide the optimum balance of performance and looks,” says Zircotec’s sales director Peter Whyman. “We are delighted that more and more historic race car preparation specialists such as Eurotech Racing are applying modern motorsport technology to improve the performance, reliability and safety of historic race cars.”
