For first time buyers hoping to get on the property ladder in one of London’s most happening neighbourhoods, leading housing provider Genesis has launched a collection of new homes on Acre Lane in Brixton available under its shared ownership scheme. The homes are ideally positioned to make the most of Brixton’s buzzing nightlife, vibrant community and excellent transport connections.

Brixton has long been known for its late night bars and clubs, lively street life and diverse population, but in recent years it has matured with its refurbished central square, safer streets and booming foodie scene. Add to this the short travel times into Central London on the Victoria Line and it is no wonder Brixton is one of the most popular places that young professional Londoners choose to live.

While trying to get on the property ladder in such a desirable location can be beyond the means of many, thanks to Genesis’ part rent part buy scheme, buyers can purchase between 25% and 75% of the property and pay subsidised rent on the remainder, making owning their own home far more achievable.

The apartments on Acre Lane are available in a range of one and two bedroom layouts, each with their own private balcony. The building’s striking contemporary exterior appearance is complemented by high quality interiors that offer the best in stylish urban living. Their design is carefully planned to make the most of the space and natural light, giving each home a bright, airy atmosphere.

A high standard of interior specification has been chosen, including white gloss kitchen units with granite effect worktops and a full range of integrated Bosch appliances, along with a Hoover washer/dryer. Sleek bathrooms feature sparkling white Roca suites, complemented by cool grey ceramic wall and floor tiling. Engineered wood flooring and neutral wool carpets are fitted as standards, while for peace of mind a video door entry phone provides extra security.

The homes are designed to high eco standards, including solar panels on the roof, full double glazing for extra insulation and low energy lighting, all adding up to a significant saving on utility bills. The apartments are set in communal landscaped grounds for all residents to enjoy, containing a playground and ample secure cycle storage.

Brixton’s cultural and social scene needs little introduction – the O2 Brixton Academy is one of London’s premier music spots, while the Ritzy Cinema, one of England’s earliest purpose built cinemas, is a thriving independent multiscreen complex. Brixton is a busy shopping centre, with the colourful Caribbean market packed with sights, smells and tastes, while a variety of buzzing new restaurants have opened up on Acre Lane itself. And for after-hours entertainment, Brixton plays host to the capital’s leading DJ and dance scene. Just ten minutes walk away from the Acre Lane apartments is Brixton underground station providing fast connections on the Victoria Line to Victoria, Oxford Circus and beyond.

Under the shared ownership scheme, one-bedroom apartments are available for £65,000 for a 25% share, based on a full market value of £260,000. Two-bedroom apartments are available for £95,000 for a 25% share, based on a full market value of £380,000. Buyers can and increase their share at any time, all the way to 100% and outright ownership. The scheme is specifically designed for first time buyers whose household income is less than £60,000 a year and priority will be given to those who live or work in the borough of Lambeth.
